By the time Tony Hu left Chicago for Las Vegas, he had already earned himself a reputation as the “Mayor of Chinatown” for his brand of delicious and authentic Chinese food. At Lao Sze Chuan Las Vegas, he blends the fiery, garlicky flavors that characterize Szechuan dishes with classic Americanized entrees. The restaurant quickly earned stripes from Eater as one of Las Vegas’s hottest restaurants, as well as accolades for the sumptuous modern decor and, of course, the food.
Las Vegas Weekly dubbed the xiao long bao pork soup “exquisite” and the cold dishes “absolutely rewarding,” and stressed that “you simply cannot miss” the house specialty Szechuan peppercorn fish. The Las Vegas Sun took the accolades a step further: “His three-chili spicy chicken and Szechuan peppercorn fish are taste treats not to be missed or found anywhere else in town.” Also on the menu of over 100 dishes are familiar items such as egg rolls and hot and sour soup; the only things missing are dessert and somewhere to snooze while the food coma passes—but the food’s so good, no one ever notices.
