It’s not too surprising that a Guy Fieri restaurant would be named El Burro Borracho, which translates to “the drunken donkey.” After all, the celebrity chef is known for his big personality and love of a good time. But what is surprising is the food at El Burro Borracho, which takes familiar concepts (tacos, burritos, fajitas) and transforms them into something new.
As Fieri told the Los Angeles Times: “It’s stuff you’ll recognize by name on the menu [but] it’s stuff you’ll not recognize by flavor when you taste it.”
This means tacos stuffed with sweet Sonoran-style braised beef and toppings such as green olives, raisins, crema, and shredded cabbage. Crema and shredded cabbage also make their way into burritos and enchiladas. And margaritas shun a premade sweet-and-sour syrup in favor of muddled jalapeño, cilantro, fresh lime juice, and what Fieri described to the LA Times as “really good tequila and great ice.” See here to learn more about some of Fieri’s choices that went into the opening of El Burro Borracho.
